Edison built his first commercial incandescent lightbulb in 1879. Today, 141 years later the company he created to sell it, General Electric, has sold the rights to his lightbulb along with the entire GE lighting division.

General Electric has gone the same way of other big businesses during the crisis - selling as many of their disposable assets as possible to raise cash.

But for every seller there needs to be a buyer. So who bought Edison’s legacy? A smart home company, Savant Systems.

Founded by entrepreneur, Bob Madonna, Savant is known as “The Apple of Home Automation”, and since its launch in 2005 has been growing rapidly to be a leader in smart homes.

Savant was the first company to create Smart Home apps for the iphone, and Bob says of the deal: “When Thomas Edison installed the first light bulb, that must have been magical. That's how smart technology today should be in the home.”

So as analog appliances are dying, smart appliances are flying.

A ‘light bulb’ moment used to be the moment you had a world changing idea. But what if in a world already changing, it no longer needs ideas to change it?

What if it needs a change in thinking to simply keep up with the changes?

Today the biggest light bulb moments aren’t about thinking. They’re about a moment of unthinking, then rethinking.

Because for every dying industry, there is a new one being born

Have you had your light bulb moment yet?

The ten biggest areas in the world having their light bulb moments today:

1. Analog appliances are shifting to smart homes and cars

This crisis is accelerating us from the old to the new, and from the dark to the light. If you have already had your lightbulb moment, now it the time to shine on others.

If not, now is the time to find your switch.

Because you are already the light. And your light bulb moment is just one switch away.

“If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.” - Thomas Edison
