COURSE CONTENT

Module 1: Setting the scene

The first module has 3 elements:

  1. You (the business advisor), 
  2. The small business owner/entrepreneur, 
  3. The business environment in which the business exists internally (business operations) and externally (business marketplace).

Module 2: Perspectives of different business models

We share three business model perspectives with you with the intention to create new awareness/perspective for you as a Business Advisor. Continual expansion of your awareness and toolkit as a Business Advisor is essential to ensure you offer your client the best possible solutions and support to grow their business.

Module 3: Wealth Dynamics basics

If you're new to GeniusU, this is the perfect introduction and a refresher for those who need it. 

Module 4: Effective communication

We explore the art of effective communication and how it is linked to your preferred way of thinking and behavioural traits. This module covers: 

  1. Your communication style based on your thinking type
  2. Your preferred behaviours during communication
  3. The tools to increase your awareness like
  4. The art of listening
  5. The importance of trust
  6. Psychology of influence

Module 5: Fundamentals of the Excellence Model and business diagnostics

The Excellence Model is  a diagnostic measurement tool that allows organisations to do a self assessment of their performance. It is important to understand the AS-IS of a business then the TO-BE and then we plan the strategy for the gap between these two. As part of the Business Advisor program, we have two basic diagnostic tools that we offer small business owners: one for startup businesses and one for already running businesses.

Module 6: Balanced Scorecard model

In this module, we have a look at the Balanced Scorecard model. The Balanced Scorecard consist of two parts in translating the vision of a business into the day-to-day activities that need to happen:

  1. Balanced - examines the four key perspectives of the business: financial, customer, internal process, and learning and growth
  2. Scorecard - the measurement criteria within these four areas in terms of objectives, measures, targets and initiatives

It is important to keep in mind that this tool requires a fair amount of commitment from business owners in time and resources. It cannot be done half-heartedly. This tool looks at the long terms growth of a business and breaks it down into daily activities that need to happen in the organisation.

With this module the online Business Advisors Training is completed. 

HOW THE TRAINING IS DELIVERED

We will be using 3 delivery mechanisms for the workshop for delivering the 6 modules of the workshop.

  1. Email journey – this is the emails that you’ll receive and will be the “glue” that holds the various elements of the course. This will be your primary reference point.
  2. With each module you will also receive a workbook which contains reference material, additional resources/reading and also some exercise for you to work through.
  3. Each module – will have a presentation element which will be in the format of a recorded audio, which will also include the powerpoint slides which you can use to make notes on.

During a career of more than 35 years in National and Local Government, I established myself in the disciplines of Human Resources, Public Relations, Organisational Management and Development. I hold degrees in B.Com, Hons B&A and MBA, and I qualified as an Awards Assessor of the SA Excellence Foundation, practitioner of the Appreciative Enquiry, an organisational and community development Methodology, a train-the-trainer practitioner applying competency-based performance management interventions and Business re-engineering. I am a Life and Business Coach, a Certified Business Advisor/Mentor with www.ibasa.org.za, the chairperson of the West Coast Chapter, and the Director of the SA Small and Medium Enterprise Federation www.sasmef.org.za.
