The Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region, is known for its Atlantic beaches, golf resorts, thermal spas and world-class surfing. Whitewashed fishing villages on low cliffs overlooking sandy coves were transformed in the 1960s, and now its central coast between Lagos and Faro is lined with villas, hotels, bars and restaurants. The region's western Atlantic coast and rugged interior are less developed. Faro International Airport is a 40 minute drive from Lagos.

The icing on the cake is that Portugal has one of the top Golden Visa programs in the world.  You can invest in the Moto Vista Real Estate fund at the founding level of €500,000 and qualify for legal residency in Portugal.  After 5 years of spending a minimum of 1 week per year in Portugal, you are eligible to become a Portuguese citizen, which grants you a Portuguese / EU Passport and the legal right to live, work, study and retire in any of the 27 EU countries plus Switzerland.  The Golden Visa investment allows you to include any dependent children and elderly parents. On December 22, 2020, the Portuguese government announced the end to the Golden Visa program in the Algarve and coastal cities like Lisbon and Porto. Investors have until July 1, 2021 to take advantage of the current program.
