Creating your first microdegree? WHAT combination of GeniusU tools will you use to deliver your training?

Deciding between playbooks and videos

As you look around the microdegrees on GeniusU, you may feel pressured to deliver content in a way that isn't authentically you.

 

For example, you may decide to put together a series of videos when you're not really comfortable in front of the camera. Or you may be tempted to deliver a series of playbooks when writing isn't your main strength. If you're a Blaze, the camera probably loves you, but if it doesn't, don't force yourself to be the star of your show. If you're uncomfortable, those watching you will feel uncomfortable, too.

 

Instead, lead with your strengths. For example:

  1. If you prefer writing, then perhaps text and playbooks should be your primary delivery method.
  2. If you're more artistic, consider using imagery and infographics to get your message across.
  3. And if you're teaching a practical topic, a video of you demonstrating the process—either by sharing the screen or interviewing someone— takes the focus off you while still delivering video content that packs a punch. 

There is no one right way. Mix up your delivery methods until you find a formula that's right for you.

 

Deciding between questions assessments and slider assessments

Should you have question assessments that encourage your readers to dig deep? Or should you have simple slider assessments that allows learners to choose on a scale from 0 to 10.

 

Your Genius frequency is important when it comes to deciding how you mix and match assessment questions. Consider that, as the trainer behind your course, you're the leader. When you know your primary Genius frequency, you know exactly what type of leader you are:

  1. Dynamos are task-based leaders. They focus on getting things done and lead best when holding others responsible for their tasks.
  2. Blazes are people-based leaders. They focus on keeping strong relationships, and lead best when encouraging and motivating others.
  3. Tempos are activity-based leaders. They focus on ongoing activity and lead best when keeping everyone on track.
  4. Steels are data-based leaders. They focus on the data and detail, and lead best when managing everyone by measures and metrics.

 

FOR EXAMPLE

I am a Dynamo. I do not feel comfortable in front of the camera and I feel I express myself better through writing. I also love the power of pictures! In addition, as a Dynamo leader, my microdegrees are always filled with tasks and feedback so that I can empower you to find your own path.

 

Consider your WHAT by reflecting on the following:

  1. 1. List the most appropriate GeniusU tools for delivering your content according to your natural strengths.
  2. 2. Explain how you would combine playbook and video so that it feels right for you.
  3. 3. Describe how you should be using question assessments and slider assessments according to your leadership style.
